A couple of weeks ago when I saw this, I actually didn’t think much of it. I just wasn’t interested in getting my hopes up for a second season announcement and so I convinced myself that it was just going to be a merchandise announcement at most. In hindsight, that may have made waking up yesterday morning to an excited email from another writer that much sweeter. I was still half awake when I read it but then my eyes crossed the words: Ika Musume second season announced… and my day just perked right up!

According to the new issue of Weekly Shonen Champion, a second season of Squid Girl is headed our way! There was no release date attached (of course) but it has confirmed officially that the cute invader from the sea isn’t going anywhere for awhile! I suppose this shouldn’t be that huge of a surprise as the series has been an overall success for pretty much everyone. In its first week on sale, the first volume managed to sell enough Blu ray copies to rank 12th on the charts in Japan. Crunchyroll simulcast the first season and found themselves with an unexpected hit with fans all over the world.

Now we just need that elusive release date. And a full 26 episode run. Yeah, just those. And another episode featuring Mini Squid Girl. Just those three. Oh and definitely more scary Chizuru! All we need are those four things. Though it might also be nice to have…
