On the first day of middle school, Nayu Hayama dooms herself to rumors and whispers when she trips and reveals that she’s wearing black lace panties. For the first few days of school, other students are certain to be selling herself leading two classmates, Yako and Haruka, to go so far as to stalk her for proof. In reality, Nayu is really just a smart girl who happens to work as an underwear tester because of her love of comfortable undergarments.

Official 2010 Winter Anime Preview: Headless Bikers, Pantsu and Breast Feeding
Well, it’s been about three months since the fall season began so you know what that means… it’s time for another Otaku Review Season Preview! The 2010 winter season is interesting this year for one big reason: just fewer than two dozen titles are actually going to be hitting airwaves over the next three months (and that includes a couple of titles which have already premiered).
Interestingly, a lot of the usual front runners are nowhere to be seen this season. Studio Bones are absent, Production I.G is busy with their part in Halo Legends and Studio Deen has their hands full with the Fate/Stay Night TV reproduction and movie. Leading the crowd instead with two series each this season are ZEXCS (Chu Bra and Omamori Himari) and Shaft (Hidamari Sketch and Dance in the Vampire Bund).
There are a still plenty of other studios which will also be contributing one series this season though so let’s start this thing already. As always, all information is pulled from ANN, MAL, Anime Vice, AniDB and official websites. Images retain original copyrights, information is subject to change, links to legal streams will be updated as they are made available, yadda yadda yadda. As always, be sure to keep checking back throughout the month for my initial thoughts and from all the new shows this season. I will be hitting the first episode of as many series as I can so stick around and let the rest of us know what you like as its airing. As always I’ve tried to fact check this preview as much as I possibly can but if you notice something that is still wrong, feel free to leave a comment and point out how much of a dork I am for not having everything 100% correct. ~_^
Chu Bra and Durarara Headed for Simulcast Land?
Earlier this month, Crunchyroll announced their first winter simulcast as Cobra the Animation. After the news hit, I wondered if there were going to be any more winter simulcasts. Crunchyroll did manage to simulcast most of the fall season and with only a handful of premieres this season, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the site make another big simulcast push.
Yesterday my question was almost answered when a forum user on Anime on DVD noticed two more winter series listed on the site: loli underwear comedy Chu Bra and the dark series from the creator of Baccano, Durarara. Since then however, both series have been removed and Crunchyroll hasn’t stepped up to say one way or the other. I’ll keep this listed as a rumor for now but all the sources that I trust have all basically called this one as likely to very likely and unfortunately I already know that Crunchyroll isn’t interested in answering any questions about simulcasts until they are ready to announce it.
Premiering on the 4th, Chu Bra is a ZEXCS animated series focusing on a jr. high school girl with a love of fancy underwear so great that she forms a club to spread the love to other girls. It will certainly be interesting to see if Crunchyroll will be willing to push the envelope with this series or stream one of the literally steamier network broadcasts.
Premiering on January 7th, Durarara is based on another novel series from Baccano creator Ryohgo Narita. Animated by Brains Base, the series follows a teen that moves into the city and gets caught in the hunt for a headless biker who rides around the city amongst other things. This could wind up being a good score by Crunchyroll as fans online were bombarded with trailers, promotional videos and more throughout the month of December. I guess we’ll know soon enough if the series is worth the hype.

Trailer Roundup: Pantsu w/ a Twist of Durarara
So it seems that the Fate/Stay Night trailer was just the trip of this week’s iceberg. When I got home last night there was a virtual pile sitting in front of me waiting to be written about and finally I have the time to sit down, place fingers on keyboard and say let’s watch some trailers!
New Trailers Beyond the cut
First Looks at Chu Bra and Kaichou wa Maid-sama Up
First announced earlier this year, two series are finally having some details revealed via magazine articles. First up, Anime Nation linked to a report that the January premiere of Chu Bra will have animation produced by ZEXCS (who are also doing Onamori Himari this winter) and be directed by Hiro Yukina (Gakuen Heaven). I’d like it noted right now that this is a comedy about junior high schools in a fancy underwear club. It will also be airing on the Satellite network AT-X which made news earlier this year for refusing to censor the hentai disguised as action series Queen’s Blade. Once again I am reminded of the quote from Futabasha when the announcement was first made called this series a “slightly H girls comedy” and wonder exactly how slightly are we talking here?
Meanwhile, there’s no release date yet but the first crew members for Kaichou wa Maid-sama has hit the net as well. Animation is going to be handled by J.C. Staff (Karin, Honey and Clover, Nodame Cantabile), Hiroaki Sakurai (lots of Di Gi Charat but Nanaka 6/17 and Kodocha as well) will be directing and Yuki Imoto will be doing character designs.

Chu Bra!! Manga Green Lit for Pantsu… Err, Production
‘Chu Bra!!’ has gotten an anime announcement via the July issue of Comics High! magazine. No other details were provided but more were promised in future issues. At first I really didn’t think much of this announcement. Then I went to research what this manga is about:
A girl goes to school while wearing frilly black lace underwear which shocks her friends. The girl named Nayu then goes on a crusade and attempts to form an underwear club to teach other girls the joys of nice underwear.
A quote from the publisher, Futabasha, states that the series is a “slightly H girls comedy.” Really? A series about an underwear club populated by junior high school girls falls into the ‘Slightly H’ category? Well I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to see what the definition of ’slightly’ is in this case!
