Highs and Lames: Weekend is Over Edition
So the good news is that work is remaining steady here in Oregon. This does leave me not nearly as much time as I used to for entries. So with that in mind, the Highs and Lames still needs a new name but I’m finding it to be a great way to wrap up the week. I will still continue to deliver reports on any major news throughout the week along with general items of interest but a lot of it will be filtered into here.
Luckily, it’s also near the end of the month which means DVD reviews are resuming (thank the gods because I am burnt out on season premieres!). November will be a big month for DVD releases with Bamboo Blade, Evangelion 1.0 and Tears to Tiara all being released and I hope to review as many of them as possible. As always, keep comments and feedback coming.
Naruto Shippuden Gets Debut Date: So it’s official, Naruto Shippuden debuts on Disney XD on Wednesday October 28th with four episodes between 8:30pm to 10:30pm. I’m actually completely on board with this and think it’s ultimately a positive move. I don’t watch the series so I see no reason why I should be offended that it is going to be aired on a Disney owned network. It will get a wide new audience which is a whole new generation of anime fans. I came in on the Sailor Moon generation and I believe this is Naruto generation part 3. It could be worse. While we’re on the subject, I hope that the last episodes of the first Pretty Cure season do well on YTV up in Canada. Maybe ten or fifteen years down the road, a bunch of Naruto fan boys from the US will meet a bunch of Pretty Cure fan girls from Canada and then… ew, never mind.
Kiddy Girl-and Streams for 24 Hours: This is great news if you happen to love Kiddy Grade and can speak Japanese well enough to understand it without subtitles, you can watch it for free this season! Kadokawa will stream each episode of the new Kiddy Grade-and series on their YouTube account for 24 hours after each episode airs (from Thursday at 9:00 a.m. to Friday at 8:59 a.m. EDT).
Gundam Unicorn Has Simultaneous Overseas Release: Bandai Visual is putting a lot of backing into the upcoming Gundam Unicorn OVA series. It was announced this week that OVA series will be getting an international release on March 12th of next year and will include five different language tracks (yes, English is among them). More details on this closer to the release date but I’d like to hear about BV’s release plans. As far as I am aware, the new series will be six 50 minute episodes released on six volumes. Hopefully BV learned from previous mistakes and will price the releases accordingly.

Can the Teaspoon Model stand up to Bloodsucker Streaming Sites?: An awesome article was posted earlier this week regarding a bootleg anime site that got hit with a C&D request and were forced to remove a bunch of copyrighted material. Now, they could have just curled up from this attack but no, being the righteous martyrs they are, they struck back in a long, drawn out, whiny pity party about how unfair Funimation was being. The article highlights the fans that stood up for the industry and makes for a great read. Why is this one in the lame section? Because the reply to the letter put up in reponse to the C&D is the dumbest thing I’ve read in months.
