Sora no Otoshimono Inspired Pantsu Launchers On Sale March 6th
Back in November, author Nojiri Housuke (Rocket Girls) had a vision. He dreamed of a world where otaku could recreate one of the more memorable ending sequences of 2009 by having their own flying pantsu just like in the fall harem series, Sora no Otoshimono. Creating a rubber band powered paper pantsu launcher, he posted a video of it in action and stated that he was going to try to market them. At the time, I didn’t think much more about it. It was a funny story for the time but I moved on quickly and figured that I’d never hear about the subject again. Wow do I need to stop doing that.
After a couple of months of fine tuning, Housuke has announced that his paper pantsu launcher will go on sale March 6th for 1000 yen each. To commemorate the date, he will also be holding a special gathering for fans called Sora Fest. At the gathering, fans will listen to speakers talk about flight and attend a workshop to learn how to make their own pantsu launcher before joining everyone in a special large scale releasing of the pantsu.
As much as I hated the series that this whole idea is coming from, this is an event that I would pay good money to attend. If for no other reason than I just want to be there for the grand launching of dozens (maybe hundreds) of paper pantsu being launched into the skies of a late afternoon in Japan. Maybe it will even become an annual event… gather the crowd together to watch cherry blossoms in late spring and let your pantsu fly free amidst the falling petals.

Rocket Girls Creator to Market Anime Inspired Flying Pantsu
Alright, this is the last one I’m putting up for tonight. I honestly planned to call it a night after that last post but then I saw this and knew that there was no way I could walk away. Some of you may remember my very scathing early impressions of the flying pantsu anime Sora no Otoshimono last month. If you didn’t catch them, I’ll summarize: I hated this series. I even gave it a second chance and watched all the way up the fourth episode and still hated this series. Unfortunately, my opinion doesn’t really matter here because there are plenty of people who do love this series and have even become inspired by it.
One of the most memorable moments of the series so far has been the ED for episode two. You know exactly which one I’m talking about:
Fans marveled at the beauty of the majestic flying pantsu but lamented that it could never be a reality for them. But that was then and one man has stepped forward to create a brand new world for otaku everywhere. Creator of the sci-fi series Rocket Girls, Nojiri Housuke, has invented the flying pantsu launcher. Confirming his invention via Twitter, Housuke also posted a video onto NicoNico painting and launching his rubber band powered paper flying pantsu machine. And the damn thing actually works! The first 90 seconds of the video are of him painting his pantsu (he goes with a nice green and white stripe design, very classy) before letting them fly in a park.
He says that he can’t yet comment on the plans to commercialize the toy but he hopes to meet the expectations of the show’s fans. Dude, you have created a way for otaku everywhere to recreate what is becoming, creepy or not, one of the most popular ED animations of the year. I’m pretty sure you’re going to win an award for this somewhere down the line.
