Le Portrait de Petite Cossette (Geneon) - With a haunting soundtrack from Yuki Kaijura, groundbreaking animation, fascinating characters, and a story that is deep, rich and meaninful this was a title that didn't get nearly the attention that it deserved. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to do so.
Maburaho (ADV) - Imagine you live in a world where magic spells are a normal everyday occurance and how many times you can cast spells before you die is determined at birth. Now imagine that you can only use magic a handful of times before you die but on the plus side, you'll be the proud parent of the greatest magic user in the history of the world. That's what life is like for a young man and quickly he finds himself the center of attention for many beautiful women who want his genes. Filled with comedy, this is a harem anime that had me laughing constantly!
Interlude (Toei) - A release that was widely overlooked because of the terrible treatment and release it got from Toei, if you were able to find it you more than likely enjoyed it. The deep storyline really impressed me and drug me in. If you can find it, I still stand firm in the belief that everyone should see this.
Aquarian Age: The Movie (Synch-Point) - Just as good as the series, this movie really expanded on the war between the E.G.O., Darklore, Wiz-Dom, Arayshiki and Pole Star Empire. With fabulous animation, music and characters this release really took me by suprise.
Sister Princess (ADV) - After graduating jr. high, Wataru is all set to go to his high school of choice and go on to become another success story of Japan. Instead though, he is denied entry to his high school and is shipped off to the mysterious Promised Island where he finds out that he has 12 younger sisters that he never knew existed. Many people wrote this off as a terrible harem comedy, I found it terribly sweet and very funny. The huge cast of characters takes some getting used to but after that, it's smooth sailing.
Chrono Crusade (ADV) - One of the most original releases I've seen in a long time, this anime released by ADV took place in the 1930's and introduced us to a young demon fighting Rosette and her partner, a demon named Chrono. Working for the Order Of Magdelane, these two take on the forces of evil to save the world and Rosette's brother.
Please Twins (Bandai) - In the sequel to the hit series, Please Teacher, this is a sweet romantic comedy taking place in the same small town. In this story, we meet Maiku who is an orphen living alone while going to school when suddenly he is greeted by two girls who both claim to be his long lost sister. This was a great release with tons of heart, comedy and emotion.
Madlax (ADV) - From the makers of Noir, came this incredibly well done mysterious drama action series. It didn't matter what else was going on for me, when a new volume of this series was released I dropped everything to see it. This was a masterpiece of anime.
Petite Princess Yucie (ADV) - One of the most under rated series of the year, this series took it's audience by storm and quickly gained a rabid audience of fans that were always anxious for more. Ironic since it was a B title and one of the last recorded at the now extinct Monster Island Studios.
As of now, there are still many series from 2005 that I need to see but out of the ones that I have seen, these are my favorites. As always, the picks below are in no particular order.
